lighter

Story 21/52
-----
lighter

Everything is lighter now. The hair, the sheets, the clothes. Everything is light. Everything is made of light.

------
Okay. This is merely a hair shot. Why? Because I got myself some ombré hair today (I know. I caved.) and I wanted to do something with it and my brand new 1.4 lens. Hihihi. I'm hoping you forgive my vanity.
Oh! The texture I'm using in this shot belongs to Brooke Shaden and is available here:shadenproductions.com/blog/2013/02/12/textures-of-india/
Thanks for sharing these, Brooke!
Have a glorious weekend! Have fun and laugh a lot! :)
I will keep asking: do not blog my photos without credit AND linking back; do not use weheartit.com to bookmark my photos and please please PLEASE don't instagram my work. Thanks to those of you who respect these requests.

manifest/manifesto

I've been frustrated.

I've been feeling like my place as an artist was never really there, that my will to produce has gone away for good. I've been pissed. I've been (righteously) pissed at the people who steal my work and at those who allow it by being silent. I've been (stupidly) pissed at a part of my audience, at the lack of motivation, at the feeling that there is nothing new.

I've been falling more and more into the depths of my own head, of the devils of doubt and insecurity, of the sloth that always comes with. It's easier to stay put than it is to create and face the failure (or the success). It's easier to just do nothing, to look at others and yell 'you're all doing the same thing' than to do something myself. It's easier to sit here and feel left out, feel surpassed, feel smothered, than it is to fight.

But the easy times are over.

It's time to be bold. It's time to get back on the saddle, after almost a year, and to fight back. To work again, to push myself forward again, to publish regularly and with relish. To be proud of having my work shown, to not shrug when I get interviewed, because I don't really feel like I'm a part of the big kids. It's time to accept my place, to accept that there is still a lot of space to grow, that this isn't the end of it. It's time to go out with my camera and tripod again. I haven't done that since September! It's time to get out of bed, excruciating as it might be, sometimes. It's time to research new techniques and to not be afraid to be different, to fall outside the norm of everyone I see.

It's time to stop complaining about my work. It's time to create more. It's time to post more often. It's time to set some rules.

(and now comes the more… technical part of the post)

I work better with rules. I work better with a date or a goal, so here are a number of things I'm committing to do in the near future:

- Post at least twice a week on the blog — this is a requirement, and it will make me produce. And if I don't photograph, it will make me write; I need to do one of those two. And this is where I need your help — I need you to nag me until I post, if I haven't in over three days. I'm not kidding. Nag away.

- Collaborate — I have the feeling that one of the reasons I don't evolve is because I'm so stuck in my little world, in my kind of creation, and I never open up to other people's work. So yes. I want to collaborate with more people. Submit yourselves or ask people who might be interested. — and it doesn't just have to be photographers. If you have props you'd like to shoot me with, music or writing that you want me to interpret. I aim to do at least one collaboration per month, but I will do more if the work calls for it.

- Do at least one location shoot every month — This is essential. It will take me out of the house and make me work at a different place, with a different kind of energy.

Okay. For now, these are the rules I'm submitting myself to. If you have any other ideas for how I should stop feeling sorry for myself and get back on my path to artistry, I welcome any suggestions.
Thank you for reading through this, and thank you for being wonderful supporters. Doing this without you wouldn't be nearly as awesome.

-------

Eu tenho andado frustrada.

A sério.

Pronto.

new lens!

Guess who got herself a 50mm, f 1.4 lens? Oh my goodness. It's so freaking amazing. And sharp. And beautiful. And it's a D series, which means it opens fully for film, so I'm in love with it.

In the meantime, here are a couple of shots I took with it. I hope you like them!

----

A few weeks ago, I was invited, along with three of my friends (and bandmates) to participate in a Christmas concert, held in Guimarães.

Guimarães was chosen to be European Capital of Culture in 2012 and this concert served as a close to a fantastic year for the city. It was so amazing to be a part of it. Exhausting, yes. Rehearsals every night, singing the highest notes I had ever sung, eating badly and getting home late and tired. Still. It's that kind of tiredness that makes you smile, that makes you happy you're there. It makes you think this whole stress is worth it just for that adrenaline, the feeling of being on stage. I love it. And I loved the opportunity to bond with my darlings. It was a wonderful week.

These pictures are from the last two days; the Saturday and the Sunday of the show. I hope you like them!

--

On Saturday afternoon we had some time off, which we decided to spend at the location's café. We were exhausted.

start of the year photo dump

I know. I've been an awful poster lately; I've just been ridiculously busy with the holidays and with having my darling here, so life sort of got in the way of posting photos. I have a couple of folders on my computer that I haven't even touched yet, the photos are still in RAW format without so much as a second look. So you'll have to be patient.

What I'll share with you today are random photos taken throughout December and January so far; bits and pieces of what my life was about during these two months.

Another thing I'll do from now on, is to post both in Portuguese and in English. I feel like I've been neglecting my country people by posting just in the language of Shakespeare, so from now on the introductions will be made in both languages. The only exceptions will be for texts that serve as companion pieces for photos; those will remain in whatever language they were written in.

Also to come tonight or tomorrow is a post about a Christmas concert that I got to be a part of, which was shown live on television on the 23rd! Stay tuned!

Have a great start of year! And talk to me! What are your resolutions? How is the start of the year going for you?

-----

Eu sei.

happy 2013!

I hope all of you, my dearest followers, have a wonderful 2013!

2012 was a year of change for me, but most of all a year of growth. So much changed for the better in my life, that even the things I called bad at the time (the huge bout of depression, panic attacks, lack of inspiration) seem tiny in comparison. I am fortunate to be here and to have this outlet, this way of sharing my life.

Let's pray for a 2013 just as full and as joyful as this last one has been.

I only have two resolutions for this year (I tend to only do resolutions I know I can keep, so bear with me): to photograph more and to do less worrying and over-thinking about life. Life was meant to be enjoyed, not analyzed to the detail. I need to tell my brain that more often.

Have a wonderful time, my dear friends, and know that I am unbelievably grateful to have you all in my life.

A very merry Christmas

Even though I've been ridiculously busy and kind of away from this blog, I wanted to wish all of you a wonderful Christmas. May your days be filled with light and joy!

winter at the beach

Last Sunday, while my Mother worked, my sister came with me and the rest of our family on a walk. It was sunny outside, and even though it was as cold as could be, we had fun. She loves the beach, and she's such a city girl that I'm always happy when she can soak up some sun, albeit cold and wintery, and run around outside.
